1. Before Saibu Gas

In 1902, 11 years before Saibu Gas was established, Nagasaki Gas was born as Kyushu's first gas company. Nagasaki Gas Co. then joined with Hakata Gas, Kumamoto Gas, and Kokura Gas, and in 1913, become Saibu Gas Conglomerate. Then, after merging and seceding with several companies, Saibu Gas Group operations were temporarily taken over by Toho Gas in 1927. Three years later, on December 1st, 1930, Saibu Gas Group seceded from Toho Gas and officially become Saibu Gas.

2. The history of Saibu Gas

1930
Acquires Toho Gas's branch operations in Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, and Sasebo. With 10 million yen capital and a customer base of 29,000, Saibu Gas established. Headquarters located in Chiyo, Fukuoka City.
1943
Merges with Kyushu Gas. Capital increases to 14 million yen and customer base doubles to 63,700.
1945
After air raids during WWII, customer base drops to 35,000, facilities are severely damaged.
1949
Registered on the Fukuoka Stock Exchange.
1950
Registered on the Osaka Stock Exchange.
1951
Fukuoka Higashihama Works completed.
1953
Major flooding in Kumamoto and Kitakyushu temporarily halts operations. Service quickly resumes.
1954
Headquarters relocated to Kego, Fukuoka City.
1956
Customer base breaks the 100,000th mark.
1962
Oil gas facilities established in Nagasaki, gas conversion commenced.
1964
Calorific value increases from 3,600kcal to 4,500kcal.
1971
Nagasaki Works completed, Nakanoshima Works closed. All coal gas facilities closed.
1973
Customer base breaks the 500,000th mark.
1974
Registered on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
1975
Private brand gas apparatus sales begin.
1976
Customer base breaks the 600,000th mark; Becomes under the direct administration of the central government. Tokyo representative office opened. Omuta-Kumamoto pipeline completed, introduction of purchased gas to Kumamoto Works.
1977
Kitakyushu Works completed.
1982
Flooding in Nagasaki disrupts service to 42,000 customers. An industry-wide recovery program leads to a swift resumption of services.
1985
Conversion to natural gas decided.
1986
Introduction of natural gas to Kitakyushu Works.
1988
Headquarters relocated to Chiyo, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, introducing Kyushu's first city gas cogeneration system.
1989
Natural gas conversion begins in Kitakyushu Area.
1990
Long-term LNG import contract established with Malaysia LNG.
1991
Sasebo Works completed.
1993
Fukuhoku Works LNG terminal completed.
1994
Natural gas conversion in Kitakyushu and Sasebo Areas completed. Starts natural gas conversion in Fukuoka Area. Fukuhoku Pipeline completed. Customer base breaks the one-millionth mark.
1996
Fukuhoku LNG storage tank No. 2 completed. Fukuma Works closed. Starts LNG supply to Iizuka Gas.
1997
Refrigerated storage warehouse completed.
1999
Starts LNG supply to Karatsu Gas and Imari Gas. Fukuhoku Works obtains ISO14001 certification.
2000
Kumamoto Works completed. Natural gas conversion completes in Fukuoka Area,starts in Kumamoto area.
2001
Research and Development Institute moves to Imajuku-Aoki Fukuoka City. Gas tariff revised. Kitakyushu Works obtains ISO14001 certification.
2002
Natural gas conversion in Kumamoto area completed. Fukunan Pipeline and Nagasaki Pipeline completed. Starts natural gas supply to Tosu Gas, Kurume City, and Chikushi Gas. Tenjin Eco-station opend.
2003
Nagasaki New Works completed. Starts natural gas conversion in Nagasaki Area. Number of Natural Gas Vehicles exceeds the 500th mark.
2004
Kumamoto Works was authenticated by ISO14001. Adopted payment system for gas rate by credit card. Purchased stake in Chinese Restaurant Hassenkaku (Hassenkaku Co.,Ltd.) to run as subsidiaries.
2005
Started to fill up LNG tank trucks in Isahaya area of Kyushu Gas Co., Ltd., with LNG. An earthquake hit offshore west of Fukuoka Prefecture. All our 600 company employees joined the restoration work. All our companies completed the conversion work to natural gas.
2006
Gas rate revision. Conclusion of the long-term LNG sale & purchase agreement with Sakhalin Enegy Investment Company Ltd.
2007
2007 Extended the long-term contract with Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd. to import LNG. Established SG Greenhouse Co. Ltd.
2008
Gas rate revision.
2010
Established Hibiki LNG Co. Inc.
